Bali is situated in the heart of the Coral Triangle, an area stretching from Indonesia , the Philippines and Papua New Guinea , which is home to up to 20% of the world's coral reefs. The Coral Triangle is one of the world's largest underwater jewels and is considered the most bio-diverse underwater habitat on the planet. The richness of marine life coupled with Bali's location in the migratory bottle neck strait between the Indian and Pacific oceans makes Bali an ideal place to dive year round. Experts estimate our waters contain over 3,000 species of reef fish, which is twice as many as the Great Barrier Reef and more than that found in the Red Sea . Bali has 80 genera of coral, compared to the Caribbean 's 20 genera. Indonesia is famous for the largest amount of reef fish in one place anywhere in the world. Our fertile waters provide ample food supply for large pelagics such as Mola Molas (sunfish), whales, dolphins, dugongs, manta rays, sharks and turtles to name but a few. You can see Manta Rays daily in Bali and Mola Mola's are regulary sighted particularly during Mola Mola season; August through October. But remember nothing is guaranteed in diving, ok apart from wrecks generally they don't move! Some estimates show year round one in every 15-20 dives around the Penidas divers see at least one Mola Mola. Diving in Bali offers such a wide variety of diving; a World War II ship wreck, a wooden ship wreck from two centuries ago, vertical drop-offs, sand slopes, black volcanic outcrops, limestone shores, huge bommies, roaring currents, quiet secluded bays, deep coral covered ridges and in seas grass beds. Great dives can be had in Bali every single day year round. Unlike numerous other dive locations, Bali is not greatly affected by monsoon. We have two seasons in Bali , wet and dry. The seasons are broadly defined as: Dry April – October Wet November – March What does this mean for diving in Bali ? "Even at the worst times, Indonesian diving conditions are infinitely preferable to those prevalent elsewhere – 'cold' water in Indonesia is anything under 25 degrees Celsius and bad visibility is anything below 10-15 m."
