Photography was almost an afterthought; initially, I wanted to be a marine scientist. As an undergrad in Santa Barbara I was particularly taken with marine mammals, which led to internships and work with biologists and Santa Barbara's Marine Mammal Center.

As an aspiring marine biologist, I found the camera as essential a tool as the notepad during field observation, and collecting images as rewarding as collecting data. In the field, I discovered a new and exciting way to explore and understand the world. Inevitably my interests shifted from the library and the lab to the lens and the darkroom. While I liked marine science, I loved nature and marine photography. Today, my home office and studio are in Monterey Bay, a uniquely beautiful place to live and photograph, on land and underwater. My work has been exhibited locally, used by research and conservation organizations, and published in magazines, calendars and books. Additionally, I lead trips for nature and underwater photographers and teach techniques in digital workflow using Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop. I am also available for talks on my photography, photo techniques used in the field and in the digital darkroom. Please visit my blog to stay up to date on my recent shoots and upcoming events, or contact me directly for additional questions or comments. I would love to hear from you.
